SILANG, CAVITE (Jan. 20, 2026) ― His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, pro-prefect for the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization, discussed current trends in the Universal Church as the keynote speaker in the first Taon ng Pakikinig conference of the Diocese of Imus held at the Sisters of Mary Girlstown, this municipality.
Cardinal Tagle, who served as the fourth bishop of Imus from 2001 to 2011, shared several trends that he has observed in his experiences visiting various areas around the world. These trends touch on different aspects of human experiences, from peace to poverty to social media and the environment.
The cardinal invited the conference participants to approach the Taon ng Pakikinig as disciples of Christ, highlighting the need to be open to learn from Christ, be attracted to Christ, and form a community of disciples only to be sent as missionaries of the gospel.
After sharing eye-opening and challenging points, Cardinal Tagle eventually invited those present to face these challenges as disciples of Christ, full of zeal and hope anchored on love of Christ, the Church and all of creation.
The conference concluded with a discussion among participants as they shared among themselves how they felt they were being called by the Holy Spirit to respond to the challenges posed by Cardinal Tagle.
The Diocese of Imus has entered its Taon ng Pakikinig in preparation for the diocese's 65th anniversary. The whole church of Cavite will celebrate, not only with festivities but by listening to the Holy Spirit and to be able to discern where the Spirit is leading the diocese in the present context.
